This manual was developed to provide best practices for avoiding the spread of invasive weeds during tree removal work which is a particularly problematic vector of dispersal since mechanical tree removal generates great disturbance. The goal for this effort is that contractors doing tree removal work in the Central and Southern Sierra region will incorporate these practices into their standard operating procedures, and help prevent the spread of invasive weeds. Following this BMP is Mandatory for public lands, and strongly recommended for private lands.

3 items comprise this effort:

  1. A 2-page handout to serve as the BMP for tree removal contractors in the field
  2. A 1-page Plant ID for our selected set of priority invasive species
  3. A Powerpoint of the Tree Mortality BMP for education and outreach on the topic. Please also use this at your local Tree Mortality Task Force meetings. Or anywhere!

This manual and its components are available as a free download. Click here for a zipped file with all documents for Prevention BMPs for Central Sierra Tree Mortality Zones.
