Together, we’re working hard to protect California from the threat of invasive plants.
Cal-IPC is committed to expanding the ecological workforce to better fulfill the state’s conservation goals. Thanks to a generous donation that established Cal-IPC’s John H. Anderson Land Steward Training Fund, we are offering a limited number of scholarships to early career professionals or students in conservation and land management fields to assist with the costs of travel and/or missed work.
Scholarship amounts are as follows:
- $100 and waived registration to participate in one of the 1-day Cal-IPC Practitioner Workshops, (October 1 in Cal Poly Pomona or November 15 in California State University East Bay, Concord Center).
- $200 and waived registration to participate in the 3-day 2024 Cal-IPC Symposium (October 23-25, Online).
Who should apply?
The John H. Anderson Scholarship supports students and early career professionals in the conservation and land management community, especially those who do not have financial support from an employer to attend training sessions. Applicants should have a strong desire to grow as conservation professionals and a pathway to apply lessons learned at this training to support invasive plant management.

Deadline to apply: August 1.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee. Applicants will be notified whether or not they have been selected for an award by August 27. Awardees will be selected based on appropriateness of response to listed questions, completeness of the application, and demonstrated applicability of the training event to current or future organizational work and professional development.
Priority will be placed on the content of responses received rather than grammar or spelling. Applicants are encouraged to do their best to get their point across regardless of writing level/ability.
Up to twenty scholarship spots will be set aside for each event and chosen applicants will have admission fees waived. If applicants have already paid for admission, their fees will be refunded. Scholarship checks will be mailed to Symposium attendees after the event is complete, contingent upon attendance. Scholarship checks will be available for pick up at the check-in desk for Practitioner Workshop attendees. To welcome a broad range of participants, applicants can only apply for a Scholarship Award to one of the three events.
